Last Minute Rebuild!
Just been looking at the challenge details and notice mention of a 'bump' in the Lava Palava challenge. Its not entirely clear the nature of this 'bump' save that it is 53 mm high and runs across the width of the track!
Alarm bells are ringing! Dan-ED has tank tracks so good at negotiating obstacles, it can cope with slopes quite well. However, Dan-ED is also 'top heavy'. If the 'bump' rises up sharply it could cause Dan-ED to topple backwards!
Thankfully, with the versatility of lego, we have managed to implement a quick re-design of the chassis to lengthen the wheel base by about 40 mm. This will give it greater stability against toppling over.
You can see how we stripped down Dan-ED's original chassis, ready for rebuilding.
We added some lego technic pieces to extend Dan-ED's wheel base by about 40mm.
Motors and track sprockets then added back onto the extended chassis.
Here's Dan-ED reassembled with lengthened wheel base. It was easy with lego!
